Anniversary Album Cover

I was approached by a client who was having a custom vinyl record pressed for her significant other’s birthday. She needed someone to design the album cover and record labels, which is something I’ve always wanted to do, so I was very excited to help her out.

The client said that they wanted a nature scene since they love camping, and requested that I incorporate an owl and bear into the scene if possible. This was my initial sketch that I based the final piece on.

Using Photoshop and a Wacom tablet, I digitally painted the scene. This was by far the most involved illustration I’d ever attempted. I used a monochromatic color palette so that I only had to focus on using tints and shades for light and shadows.

On the back of the sleeve, She had a message she wanted to include, as well as the track listings. These track listings along with the monogram were also included on the record labels themselves. I kept the back simple so that the text wouldn’t get lost on a busy background, but added some trees to make it cohesive with the front side.
