This is an invitation and rsvp design I created for some close friends. Their wedding aesthetic used rich earth tones and natural components. To reflect this in their invitations, I decided to use hand-drawn illustration and text to achieve an organic look. After deciding what imagery they would like included, I started by drawing the illustrations in pencil, which were then inked and digitized. I then digitally painted in a layer behind the line work using a Wacom tablet. The RSVP was created in three layers. The lettering was done first, then using tracing paper I drew the foreground, then did the same for the background. This allowed me to easily edit them in separate layers in Photoshop. The couple had a specific typeface in mind that they wanted to use for the majority of the text. So, to give it a handwritten look that would match the style of the illustration, I typeset the text in Photoshop, then printed and traced the text in ink on tracing paper.
